“Let the states speak for themselves in terms of their policy towards the Russian Federation and their support for Ukraine,” Kirby was quoted as saying by TASS. Thus, the White House representative commented on the possible improvement in relations between Russia and Israel after the government of Benjamin Netanyahu came to power.
At the same time, Kirby noted that Washington is trying to rally the entire international community around Ukraine, but countries “should decide for themselves how and if they will do business with these countries.”
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed in a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the situation in Syria. Later, the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk, criticized Cohen for speaking with Lavrov. According to Korniychuk, Cohen’s communication with the Russian minister represents a change in Israeli policy.
