BAZA is an experimental educational program created by Anatoly Osmolovsky and Svetlana Baskova in 2011 for those who want to take art seriously. The Open Studios project has existed since 2017 and is part of the strategic direction “New Winzavod names”. The project combines the principles of a workshop, a residence and an art school. Open Studios residents have the opportunity to work with a mentor, receive personal professional advice, participate in collective projects, artist talks and master classes. For the artists selected by a council of experts, participation in the project is an opportunity to take their first steps in the creative and commercial field under the guidance of experienced professionals. The School of Free Workshops, the educational platform of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, was founded in 1992 for emerging artists and curators. In “Free Workshops” students study in two directions: “Recent Art” – a program for artists, where students deepen their knowledge in art history and theory and join the professional community, and “School of Curators”, where Students receive a curator’s qualification, enhancing their professional skills for work in art institutions and the public sphere. There are three state-funded places in the Free Workshops, which, as a rule, are offered to students from other cities who come to Moscow to study. Full-time college students receive a 10% discount.
