Let us remember that the Bolsonaristas, unhappy with the results of the presidential elections and the victory of Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, broke the police cordon and entered the parliament building, the National Congress. Later, part of the protesters took part in the presidential residence, the Planalto Palace.
Videos of violent fights between protesters and law enforcement agencies appear everywhere on the Web. Bottles and stones are used, which are thrown en masse against the exposed police cordons. Mounted policemen are surrounded by Bolsonaristas, thrown from their horses and beaten, including with sticks and flag poles.
The space above the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, where the events took place, is controlled by helicopters that launch stun grenades and fire tear gas at the Bolsonaristas. Armored vehicles of the military police with water cannons were transferred to the same square.
The Brazilian media reported that many of the facilities of the Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Supreme Court were vandalized by protesters, windows were broken everywhere, interior decoration was damaged and there were cases of looting. In addition, some media outlets indicate that Lula’s team apparently intends to significantly limit Internet bandwidth in the Federal District to prevent protesters from communicating via instant messaging.
