German actress and model Tatjana Patitz has died at the age of 56. She was one of the “big six” supermodels, along with Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss. The cause of death was not reported. Vogue writes about it.
Patitz was born in Hamburg to an Estonian and German mother. When she was little, her family moved to Scanner, located in the south of Sweden.
At the age of 17, Tatyana tried herself as a model. She then participated in a modeling contest in Stockholm, where she placed third and received a trip to Paris and a contract as a prize.
Patitz appeared on the cover of Vogue in 1985. She was the muse of photographer Peter Lindbergh. She appeared in George Michael’s video for the song “Freedom 90” – the singer invited her after seeing her on one of the magazine covers.
“Tatiana has always been a European symbol of elegance, like Romy Schneider and Monica Vitti. She was much less conspicuous than her peers, more mysterious, more mature, more inaccessible, and this had her own attractiveness, ”Anna Wintour recalled.
