RWE has launched Casa Valdés, a 44 megawatt (MWac) solar park very close to Madrid, as the company has indicated in a statement and collected by Europa Press. The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant will be able to supply green electricity to the equivalent of 30,000 Spanish homes.
On its 97-hectare surface, RWE has installed 97,740 high-performance bifacial modules. The advantage of this system is that the integrated bifacial cells are in a double-sided glass module that absorbs solar radiation on both sides, which favors energy production, explains the company.
RWE has also used these modules in the Puerta del Sol (located near Casa Valdés) and Las Vaguadas (in Badajoz province) solar projects. These two plants, currently under construction, will add a total solar capacity of 54 MW.
RWE Renewables Iberia currently operates an onshore wind capacity of more than 480 MW and a solar capacity of more than 90 MWac in Spain. In addition to the solar projects, RWE is building the Orkoien onshore wind project, which will serve to test innovative technologies, with the aim of further improving sustainability.
In line with its growth objectives, RWE is preparing the wind and photovoltaic projects in the existing development portfolio to participate in the ‘capacity competition’, the Spanish tender for access to the electricity transmission network.
