Doctors continue to fight for the life of Roman Kostomarov. The famous athlete has been in intensive care for more than two months, suffered two strokes and several amputations. Now doctors are closely monitoring the patient’s hand, which has turned blue due to sepsis. However, the operations cannot be performed: Roman is too weak, having lost a lot of weight during his illness, and has changed beyond recognition.

Roman Kostomarov lost weight from 75 to 50 kilograms with a height of 182 centimeters, writes Dni.Ru. From the moment of being in intensive care, the star patient cannot eat on his own. He receives food through a tube. The doctors withdrew the drugs that plunged the patient into a drug-induced sleep, but he never fully returned to consciousness.

The disease changed Kostomarov beyond recognition. He still can’t breathe on his own. The figure skater’s body is exhausted, due to sepsis, the work of almost all organs is disrupted.

Therapist Andrey Zvonkov, who previously worked with the Russian ski jumping team, reported on Kostomarov’s new problem. According to the expert, the blue hand can be explained by a vasospasm, which is typical of Raynaud’s disease. He pointed out that one should not expect “miracles.” “Most often this ends with the fact that people cut off their hands to the elbow, and their legs to the knee,” msk1.ru quotes him.

Zvonkov also emphasized that after several operations Kostomarov’s body is under severe stress. According to him, the main task is to help Roman survive. “Injuries like his lead to a personality change. He probably remembers something of what happened. After all, he is still balancing on the scales, which no one knows where to balance,” argues Zvonkov.
