During Paris Fashion Week, Artcurial will auction items from Didier Ludo’s personal archive. The event will take place on January 26, it is organized jointly with Christie’s; this is a rare case of cooperation between the two houses.
The auction will feature 150 handpicked items from the antiques dealer’s 48-year career in haute couture. His well-known boutique in the Palais Royal has earned an international reputation among the fashion industry and artists.
So, in his archive – a Chanel dress of 1937, a flared dress from the first collection of the young Yves Saint Laurent for Dior, for which in 1958 he received the nickname “The Little Prince of Fashion”, a Balenciaga dress of 1962, a Pierre Cardin skirt and a 1984 Alaïa jean suit worn by the designer’s muse Farid Khelfa. The selection also includes works by Jean Desse, Marc Bohan and Rudy Gernreich.
“Didier Ludo passed on his passion for haute couture to me. I am proud that Artcurial and Christie’s join forces and expertise,” said Camille de Foresta of Christie’s.
Let’s remember that Princess Diana’s evening dress is up for auction at Sotheby’s. Experts estimated it at 80-120 thousand dollars. It was created by fashion designer Victor Edelstein in 1989. Diana wore this outfit in 1991 when she posed with Prince Charles for an official photo taken by Lord Snowdon.
