“Has the international community taken any steps to resolve (the conflict)? Everyone helps the arms dealers. We are thinking about how to ensure peace,” the Turkish leader was quoted as saying by TRT.

Erdogan explained that Ankara is in contact with both sides of the armed conflict: Turkey is negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The leader assured reporters that the Turkish authorities “sincerely continue to make efforts on this path.”

The last telephone conversations between Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan took place on January 5. The Turkish leader raised the issue of the unilateral cessation of hostilities. Soon the President of Russia announced a ceasefire along the entire line of contact in honor of the Nativity of Christ. On the same day, Erdogan spoke with President Zelensky. However, Kyiv rejected Moscow’s peace initiative and repeatedly shelled Donbas settlements on January 6 and 7.
