The company wants to save 20 million euros by 2024. Approximately half of them will affect the programming sector, where about 100 jobs will be eliminated, the remaining 10 million euros will be saved in investments in technology and infrastructure, said the director by DW, Peter Limburg.
On Friday, the austerity measures were announced at a meeting of the Broadcasting Council in Berlin and brought to the attention of the workers. In total, DW employs 3,400 full-time employees.
The German Union of Journalists and the Verdi union have criticized these plans. They insist on the immediate cessation of the measures introduced. For its part, Deutsche Welle management said the federal budget for next year has yet to be determined, but the company “must take preventive measures” to save money.
